About CGR
Welcome to the Custom Gear Report. A part of the DIY Tactical group.
Misson
Several months ago on the main DIY Tactical site we announced our Gear Review initiative. In an effort to keep things focused organized and inline with our web development plan, we’ve decided it would be best to build a dedicated site, in blog format, for all reviews, news, and announcements that relates to custom gear, limited production equipment and smaller gear companies.
It’s come to our attention over the years that there are plenty of tactical gear review websites out there, probably too many, and most of them are filled with reviews of gear from large manufacturers. We don’t argue that quite a few of these companies provide a decent product. We do however know that there are a lot of talented individuals making equipment that far exceeds anything being put out by the major players. This can be seen within the DIY Tactical forum on a daily basis. The problem is these small companies don’t have marketing budgets that reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is where we come in and try to help them get the word out.
About Me, the Editor
Since this blog has been active I’ve received a couple emails asking “who the hell are you” to be doing gear reviews.
Well the reality is I’m no one special. I’m a former Soldier who’s had a long time interest in tactical gear that continued on even after I left the Military.
For what it’s worth, my opinions and observations are based on almost 11 years experience in the US Army in which I served in various Light and Air Assault Infantry line units as well as Reconnaissance Scout and Sniper positions. During this time I lived or deployed to many locations that provided me with interesting environmental experience, places like Korea, Alaska, Egypt, and Thailand as well as the usual training centers in the US.
When I left the Military I spent several years working as a Physical Security Engineer and Maritime Security Consultant. After which I took a position in Iraq as a Security Contractor. During my almost 2 years in Iraq I started DIY Tactical, a “how to” website and forum about build tactical gear, along with a online store selling raw materials. I returned home to run the business full time in and have been doing that since 2006 .
During the past roughly19 years, I have been modifying, building and designing tactical gear.
So with that said I think I bring at least a little bit to the table when talking about the topics on this blog. At the end of the day my goal is to help out a few small business, provide informative content and of course have some fun while doing it.
