I find it kinda funny that we were painting our weapons back in 95 in the 3/187 Scout Platoon. M16's M203's and M24's. Of course we've seen soldiers doing it in OIF and OEF. nothing new there. But now it is official.

Eric's comments on Soldier Systems mention this only applying to the M16/M4, not authorized for other systems, being rejected from turn in etc. I know that is the official answer, but lets look at reality. A Commander that is going to authorize painting rifles probably "gets it" and is most likely going to be ok with paining the other systems as well. Hell they didn't care when it was taboo.

Going back to my days at Campbell, when we had to turn a weapon in for higher level maintenance for replacement we cleaned it really well, not fun, but we got it done. Something I am sure NCO's still teach soldiers.

Nice, now there's an official method to the madness. All common sense stuff to be sure, but definitely a nice little handout that's going to go in my Duracoat box in the shop for use as a quick reference.
