The PocketToolX Piranha by Mk7 Designs

pirahna-pocket-tool-x-holdingLooks like there’s a new pocket tool maker chomping their way onto the scene with what they have named the Piranha. The tools is being offered by PocktToolX and designed by Mk7 Designs.

At initial glance it appears to pack quite a bit into a unique little package. A list of features that include:

- Open-ended wrench
- Box wrenches
- Bottle cap opener
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
- #8 flat-head screwdriver
- Pry bar
- Flat scraper
- 2 Pry tips
- Nail Puller
- Integrated grips
- Lanyard

Made from S30V Stainless Steel, hardened to 58-30 HRC with a smooth stone wash finish.

It’s my understanding these tools are going to be produced in significant quantities not small batches like smaller companies like Atwood so they should be readily available. Currently you have to pre-order but we are told they are to be in stock by mid December, hopefully in time for Christmas, this would be a cool stocking stuffer.

More pics after the break.

I’ve never gotten too excited about these types of pocket tools. I’ve always thought a full-sized plier tool is a better way to go. Anyone out there have some experience where this type of tool came in handy? I do like the look of this one…

Anyone have first hand experience with these? It looks a little big for a keychain and a bit pricey as well.

    Wow, $50? I can get a knockoff multi-tool for less than that…

I can understand the price, sorta. But the size looks a bit big? The smaller Atwood stuff looks better for a keychain.

I agree these don’t seem all that useful. If you really want to go cheep get a Widgy Pry Tool and a Versadriver Pocket Tool Kit from CountyComm.com. Its a great EDC combo for fixing small things.

The pricing on these is for the same reason custom tactical gear is so expensive. it’s had crafted, and usually made by one or a small group of people. Also, it takes a lot of work to make these by hand, unlike if a big manufacturer did, b/c they don’t have the automated machinery and mass labor to minimize the cost per item. When you buy something like this, you’re buying a lot more than a piece of gear or equipment, you’re essentially buying a piece of artwork (in a manner of speaking).
