You may laugh but back in the 1970s-1980s the Canadian hard rations were in cans. In the days before Individual Meal Packets (IMPs – the Canadian equivalent to US MREs), it was considered gold when you got a can of bacon for your breakfast rations. They came in two varieties – dry and crunchie that you could eat with your fingers and floppy and greasy that was best warmed up some how.
Cheers from up north,
Fusilier
